Wed. 4. [4 August 1897] Talked after breakfast with an odd pair who
had come from Uriage. Papa and I bicycled up to Le Lautaret,
pushing our bikes all the way. Very lovely but an awful grind. Masses
of wild flowers. Lunched at Lautaret in a violent storm which presently
cleared and we came skimming down hill again. Sat out after tea and
made friends with an Englishman called Hicks.
