Sun 3. [3 May 1896] Left Milan [Milano] at 10.25 and had a carriage to
ourselves all the way to Paris. Lunched at Bellinzona, tea at Lucerne
[Luzern] and dinner at Bale [Basel (Basle)] where we met Geoffrey
Mills and Mr Martineau. The pass lovely and green, on the Swiss
side it began to rain and turned into a very wet disagreeable evening.
