Mon 21. [21 August 1899] Left at 6.20. Tremendous crowd, however
we just managed to get off. Hugo went in the opposite direction to
Weimar at 6.35. At N¸rnberg I left all the others and went on alone.
We were late at Friedrichshafen and I missed my connection at
[space left blank]. Made friends with Madame von AndrÈ on the boat
crossing the Lake of Constance [Konstanz], over our lost luggage!
Delicious afternoon. I walked out into the fields and looked at the
mountains. Dined at 6 and off at 8 in a compartment to myself which I
had all the way to Geneva [GÈneve]. At Lausanne bought a local
sheet telling of the Paris riots.
