Thurs. 30. [30 August 1894] Weather clear. Bathed. Finished
Mutrebe Khush. At 2.30 went by tram to Insteg and walked through
Hˆttinger till we met our guide, Franz Hiessler, a charming creature
with bewitching manners like Laurence Godman's. We walked under
the hill and then up the Kranebitten Klamm - "recht romantisch!" said
Frantz and indeed it was. Found Monkshood yellow and blue, the
long blue gentian, a white campanula, Soloman's seal and masses of
lily of the valley leaves. Tea at 6 on semels and cheese and
chocolate. Reached the Solstein H¸tte at 7 just in time to see the sun
sink behind the hills. Heavenly meadow at the top of the woods right
up amongst the big hill tops. Papa Hugo Elsa and I shared one room!
with l'Amor in the middle. He behaved like a beast! Frantz sang to
the guitar - charmingly!
