Wed 14 [14 February 1894] The sun again! The Professor came in
the morning and we had interesting talks on pictures and on
Benvenuto. Read some of the Farinata Canto. In the afternoon to the
Uffizi where we saw the Botticelli Calumny and the drawings which
made me wild with delight. Then to Bellosguardo walking up long
lanes between white walls in the sunshine. Such a view at the top
over Florence [Firenze] and down the Arno valley. Penetrated into
someone's olive garden and found aconites anemones and blue
hyacinths and made our way down through terraced corn fields onto
the Arno. Mary went to church and I walked along the Lungarno in the
sunshine home.
