Mon. 24 [24 April 1893] Lovely hot day. Wandered about with Sybil, then across to Kirsch to see Mittie. Saw also Mrs Alfred Pease. Dear me, Mittie does giggle! They all came into our garden and I walked with them to an embroidery shop. Lady Playfair, Wigrams, Stobarts and Mr Arkwright to lunch. Afterwards drove with Aunt L [Lizzie] to a lovely Moorish house belonging to some people called McClay where the proprietor, a friendly old buffer, showed us round. Exquisite shaded garden of the Harem, and arched courts, and roofs and walls of roses. Rode at 5, Alfred Pease with us. Went to a garden planted with palms and abutalon and eucalyptus; saw growing wild - purple gladiolus, a lovely speedwell and a white thing called some name like Onythogerum. Extraordinary luxurious[?]. Lilian and I wandered about the garden after dinner in the moonlight.
