Wed. Oct. 1. [1 October 1919] In the morning saw Captain Garland, at
present running the Arab Bureau and arranged with him that he should
send us a rÈsumÈ of Clayton's intelligence. The Arab Bulletin is
closed down but will be issued under a new name. In this guise it will
no longer be sent to our French and Italian colleagues and it will
therefore be much more outspoken and will contain news which it has
hitherto been impossible to publish in it. Captain Garland seems
capable and is certainly pleasant. He is assisted by one other officer
and has a sufficient staff of typists, a respectable collection of
archives and a female librarian. I came back to Cairo in the
afternoon.
