Thurs. 30. [30 April 1914] They were Bedu. We saw them all moving camp next day. 2 men on a camel came and explored us but were soon satisfied that we were harmless. When we got over a ridge we saw Hermon [Sheikh, Jebel esh] and a village clinging to a hillside. Sparse cultivation and stocks - barley about 5 in high. Presently peasants pulling it up. So we rode down to Dumair [Dumayr] by a wadi with traces of an old bridge near the village and I took my last bearing on the pediment of the temple. All the village threshing floors piled high with grass. The gardens behind their mud walls in summer leaf. We rode on through the village and could find nothing for the camels. Finally we went on to Adra ['Adhra] and camped beside a pool almost exactly on the spot where I mounted my camel on Dec 15. Bought grass for the camels. The sun set and all the bare hills blue purple with Hermon in shadow.
