Sun March 1. [1 March 1914] Ibrahim sent me a mare today and at the same time returned my present to him and Zamil. He sent the khazneh dar to ask if they were from me or from Alu Qasim; a few moments later a woman appeared with them in a basket. I rode out to his garden which was full of flowering plums, almonds and apples, and then round the walls of the town. Only the Luddeh and Samah quarters are walled. When I came in discussed the situation with Abu Q. lunched and sat for a time with Lu.lu.ah. All the men were invited to dinner by Ali's relations - by special consent of Ibrahim! They came back about 5.30. It was very hot and stuffy, thundery - and by dinner time I had a headache and went to bed early, but not to sleep. Turkiyyeh sent her 'abdeh with some naranj and a citron. I read the whole of Acts in the afternoon and felt at home with the sensible Romans confronted by Paul and at home with him too.
