Fri. Jan 2. [2 January 1914] Warm morning. Off at 7 with 'Ali and 4 of the Qasr men to look at some stones. They proved to be capitals and engaged columns, the latter on rounded stones of a mihrab or apse. One basket capital. They were used for the graves of the Ruwalla who have a large camping ground below. They come here, but only in great strength, before they go east, when the rains have fallen in the Hamad [Hamad, Al]. The Sukhur dare not attack them. The Qasr Arabs are mostly Sherarat. They pasture the horses of the Druzes and are given flour and coffee by the Druzes. If they see a stray camel in the desert they bring it is, kill it and eat it. They are a miserable lot. The dululs picked us up at the graveyard, having loaded 11 qirbehs of water - all we have. We rode by Wained[?], whence we saw 'Aura. But it was a long way across the flat ground. Near near [sic] Nimran told us in his soft feminine voice, the Serdiyyeh attacked the Beni Khadid, killed two women and a child. Ashab al nar are all the Arabs. I changed camels with Ibrahim and rode on with 'Ali getting to 'Amra about 2. It lies delightfully in the valley bed over which are scattered butm. I photographed till 4 - badly I fear. The dome is on pendentives. Both these and the cross vault are constructed like the Ukhaidir [Ukhaydir] counterparts, with a bracket of horizontal stones cut to the shape of bricks. No bricks here. All the vaults constructed of thin brick-like stones. Wonderful sunset. This was the first really warm day. Clear glow lasting till 5.45.
