Sat. Dec 6. [6 December 1913] Called on the Mackinnons - their day. Talked to Dr 'Abd al Rahman who told me how Sami Pasha had imprisoned Nuri ibn Sha'lan with no evidence against him. He had even offered Sami help in putting down the Arab rebellion which S. had refused. He said too the the [sic] Wahhabis are everywhere in Arabia - a Protestant movement. There are two Wahhabi sheikhs here in the Maidan, Damascus [Dimashq (Esh Sham, Damas)], who have mosques and large congregations. Not however fanatical though very strict Moslems.
