Thurs 27. [27 November 1913] Better today. Fattuh arrived and we
went to see Bassam and his wife. The latter a handsome woman
from Nejd [Najd]. She came via Taif [Taif, At], Meccah [Makkah] and
Medinah [Al Madinah (Medina)] 8 years ago. Rather difficult to
understand her speech - full of invocations to God. Two boys, rather
chilifs. The elder is going to Beyrout [Beyrouth (Beirut)] to Bliss. After
lunch unpacked with Fattuh and then went to see the Jesuits - an
English man, Burgin, is going to devote himself to the Hauran. He is
waiting till his beard grows, which it is not doing at all fast! Then to the
Hananers[?] and so walked home through the bazaars and got in at 5.
Played Bridge afterwards.
