Sat. Ap 15 [15 April 1911] Thick mist at 5.35 Temp 46, Bar 28.6. Off at
6.35 direction just W of N. At 7 we touched the Jerrahi [Jarrah, Wadi]
and marched along it in the direction of Tell Keraseh, more or less
(not so much E) At 7.45 we crossed the Jerrahi and turned NNW. At
8.40 we touched another stream, the name variously given to me as
Mukhabban or Mureibich (Mureibik). We found some of the Abu
Sab'a, a division of the Tayyi near Tell en Nasr, and one came with
us to show us the ford. It is above Tell en Nasr at a tell called
Shedadi which we reached at 1.10. Then we turned a little more W
and rode straight to Nisibin [Nusaybin (Nisibis)]. At 1.10 Shawitte, at
2.15 'Antariyyeh, at 2.45 Nisibin bridge. We camped under the
columns. The old Syrian Catholic priest came to see me, then the
head of the gendarmes, a Turk from Kharput [Harput]. We called on
the Kaimmakam, a Turk from Brussa [Bursa]. I took a cursory glance
at Mar Ya'kub which belongs to the old Syrians. Tur 'Abdin lovely.
Storks nesting in the columns.
