Sun Feb 5 [5 February 1911] Called on the Mashir, Fathy Pasha. He
is just going to Monaster and is being replaced by Faik Pasha. He
reminded Selim Beg that the Constitution wd not have come about
without the army ie the commitee. Hochw‰chter [see also
Hofw‰chter] says he is leaving because Sami P. wants him moved;
he is not subservient enough. Sami paid me a long visit. He
evidently does not much like Nazim of Baghdad but Bassam says the
country is all quiet there since he came. Rode in the afternoon, with
Navilles, Hahn, Devey and others to Dumar [Duma] and back.
Played bridge.
