Wed 25. [25 January 1911] Snow but warmer. Up at 6 and saw the
caravan off. Went with Mr Hillelson to see the editor of the Muktabas
but he was out and we had to spend ever so long with his wife and
niece without seeing the books he has. Went into the big mosque.
Columns and caps Roman but the upper order probably of the time of
Welid. The transept is a difficult point. I am inclined to think it all Arab
in spite of the outside mouldings. So to lunch and home where I wrote
a letter to the Times. Went to tea with the Hananers[?] where I found
among other people Miss Martin whom I saw at Tyre [Sour] my first
visit. Dined at home and played bridge at the club. Cholera scare.
