Fri Ap 16. [16 April 1909] Crossed over to the right bank leaving at
6.30. Awful business getting my mare in and out of the guffa. We rode
up the right bank and saw a man digging out tiles from the bridge
piers and got to El 'Ashik at 8.15. I stayed till 10.15. It took us just an
hour to ride to El Hawisilat. Then back and up to the Kubbet es
Slebiyyeh which we reached about 12.30. Stayed there till 1 and so
down to the river and back by guffa. Got into camp at 2 and lunched
and slept for an hour. At 3.15 went out to the mosque which I planned
and got in to tea at 6. Tired, busy day and sore chest. An agreeable
man called Ahmed has constituted himself my guide here.
