Thurs. Feb 11. [11 February 1909] Wrote letters to the Times all
morning. Lunched with Mrs Koch. Then to the Antioch gate to
photograph the minaret. Met Nahleh in the bazaars who took me to a
dealer in the Khan Wazir who had nothing particular. Then to the big
mosque under the citadel where I could not get in. Then to the
'Adliyyeh. Charming court with columns and over the windows
beautiful tiles but the people were disagreeable and would not let me
in. So through the bazaars where I met Fattuh and watched him buy
tents and odds and ends - a wonderful scene. So home to tea with
Mrs Koch and then to visit Elias HindiÈ.
