Sat 24. [24 February 1900] Stormy. Walked out with Ferideh after
lunch and went to the Armenian monastery where there are two
interesting churches with old Damascus work and tiles. The women's
church is the traditional prison of Christ. Very funny to hear Armenian
being talked. It sounds like Russian. Down through the dirty Jewish
quarter to the Valley of Hinnom where we gathered anemones for
Nina. Lots of tourists, poor dears, under umbrellas. Two
postmasters, a pastor and a school master dined.
