Sat 9. [9 December 1899] Rough; the ship rolls terrible. The Russian
did not appear and the American looked green and took no interest in
lunch. I maintained a brave front, however, slept most of the afternoon
and felt all right by tea time. Sighted the lights of Cyprus at dusk.
