Fri. 8. [8 December 1899] Running down the coast between masses
of islands. In the afternoon between Kos and the mainland. The
promontory of Cnidus [Cnidus Nova] stood out rocky and clear, then
the coast receded into the great gulf of Kos. Before Cnidus we
passed Halicarnassus [Bodrum] lying in a delicious shallow bay.
Some rocky islands facing it. We passed Rhodes [Rodhos] at dusk.
Lovely sunset. Walked the upper deck and discussed religion with
the priest.
