Mon. 30. [30 May 1898] Usual day. Reached Suez at 6, M. Dubail, the C. and I on the passerelle. I went up again after dinner with the C. to watch the departure. Moon and our electric light. Most curious steaming through the desert. M. de P. M [Maurice] and I went up again at 10 and stayed till nearly 12 when the C. came up. We were then in the salt lakes.
