Sun 23 [23 January 1898] Out to sea. Saw lots of yellow sea turtles
floating along. Read and talked to the engineer and Mr Strang all
morning. After lunch in sight of land. A great volcano sticking up and
smoking. We reached Corinto at 5 but were too late to catch the tide
and were obliged to anchor outside as there is not enough water on
the bar except at full high tide. Played chess with the engineer after
dinner - he can't play a bit - and talked to Mr Strang.
