Aug 3. [3 August 1895] Hook of Holland [Hoek van Holland] at 6. Went on to Cologne [Kˆln] where we had 11/2 hours wait. Got out and saw the Cathedral. I liked the modern front - it has a very noble soaring effect and inside the great height and the narrowness of the nave make a fine effect. After this I was ill all the 4 hours to Frankfort [Frankfurt am Main] and retired to bed as soon as we reached the Frankfurter Hof.
