Fri. 24. [24 August 1894] Left M¸hlau at 7, there was a cattle fair going
on - and by tram to Hall, by train to Jenbach and by a mountain tram to
Achen See [Achensee]. Amy and Frl Sophie with us. We steamed
up the lake to Scholastica [Scholastika] which we reached about 12
and promptly went for a most delicious swim in the Lake - it was like
swimming through a liquid jewel of the most heavenly colour. After
lunch started out all of us past Seehof, but Elsa, Papa and I went on
and clambered up the Unutz reaching the top in about 3 hours.
Horizon of snow peaks and great indented ranges with mist between
them and black toothed outlines. Found a charming little white flower
called Androsace. Came down straight through an undergrowth of
Austrian pines - or rather upon them - it was like walking on the tops of
a forest. Never struck a path however and had to scramble down a
watercourse in the dark, swinging from tree to tree. Got in soon after 8
and straight to bed, but not to sleep much.
