Sun. Oct. 20 [20 October 1919] Naji Suwaidi with Fuad Bey of the
gendarmerie came to see me off. Also Sir Robin who insisted on my
taking 2 gendarmes. We got off about 7.30. Dropped the two
gendarmes at Meskene [Maskanah] which we reached about 11 and
took on one to Hamman [Makhfar al Hammam[?]] where we arrived
about 3.15, Damascus [Dimashq (Esh Sham, Damas)] time. Put up in
a little mud room. The Arab Govt has sent out soldiers against
Midhwad ibn Qu'aishish and have taken him to Raqqah [Ar Raqqah].
Goodish road all day.
