Sun 15. [15 January 1911] Lovely day. The old cavass came for me.
Fattuh not here! Mr Cumberbatch called. I am at the German hotel.
Lunched with the Cumberbatches. Telegram from Fattuh saying he is
delayed by snow. Walked out with Mr C. and the children, up above
the consulate to a view across the sea and Lebanon. Then drove to
the American college, where I found Mrs Bliss. He is away and so are
the old father and mother - she alas very ill. Old Jessop has died
since 2 years ago. Stayed to supper with Mrs B. and her charming
children. Mr Druba and a newly married wife are in the hotel. He is
vice consul here.
