{Tues} Wed March {30} 31. [31 March 1909] Got off at 7.45. We had
to go round by Musayyib [Musayyib, Al] because the Hindiyyeh
[Shatt al Hindiyah] was out and the road destroyed. We therefore left
the gardens of Kerbela [Karbala], crossed the canal and rode with a
large party of Persian pilgrims in Bharat on mules upwards to
Musayyib. About an hour before coming to the town, at 12.30, we
reached the floods and had to skirt round them. Many homeless
people coming up from the lower marsh. Musayyib lies on both sides
of the stream which we crossed by a bridge of boats. We got into
camp at 2.15. Awfully bad cold. Finished my plan and wrote some of
my diary.
