Mon March 29 [29 March 1909] Devil of a wind. Compared my plan
with the ruins step by step. Drew and measured the 2 upper storeys.
They say the place is full of snakes. There are traces of a long line of
stone work that looks like a water conduit going down to the valley.
Inside the castle they have dug in the court to the W and got water but
bad like the Shefatheh [Shithathah] water. They grow a little corn and
some onions in the court. By the detached building to the E there is
brackish water a few feet before the surface of the ground and to the S
of it a large low squarish mound that looks as if it might have been
connected with a water supply. In rainy years the water comes down
the valley from the Hauran [Hawran, Wadi]. Wrote letters in the castle
in the afternoon - tents uninhabitable for dust.
