Sunday. 95 Sloane Street. Dearest Mother. Read these and see what you make of them - I'm afraid she is too high born! The letter from the Pall Mall was rather a blow, it only contained a cheque for 10/ instead of the accustomed £1.10/! No more poems for them! I am so delighted that there is a prospect of Papa's appearing here - I hope he will.
It has been delicious today, but very windy still. Billy came to lunch and walked with me to the Arthur Russells where I had an amusing visit. Mr Pember was there, looking extremely well and brisk. He talked about the Jameson trial and said that he thought it would be extremely difficult to convict them, even if they plead guilty which they probably will do.
I have been rather lazy about going to see people - I feel inclined to do my work peacefully and not go into the world much till you come up. It's so pleasant just hanging round of an afternoon! Your affectionate daughter Gertrude
