Baghdad March 18 Darling Mother. I've got all your letters. The last being March 5 and perfectly delightful all of them. I'm so very very sorry about Ivor's wife, poor thing.
I love your bookplate and your account of the femmes damnées and Epstein and all. Yes, and the cinema and the Lyons lecture - Lord! how funny. Not that it was funny at the time.

I've written at immense length to Father and I've just come in from a very successful tea party with the King and now I must dress for Mr Woolley's lecture.

But not before I've asked you to send me out some mules (not for riding, for wearing on the feet.) You get them at the Galerie Lafayette in Regent St, I've bought them there but I haven't an account. Black and gold, red and gold and blue and gold brocade are what I should like, one pair of each. [Space left blank] inches long. - no, here's a drawing. Your very affectionate daughter Gertrude
