Tues 15 [15 February 1898] Clear but grey. Read most of the
morning, made friends with Captain Ward over his bicycle and with
the gentlemen with the eyebrows and his party, Mr and Mrs
Brittingham over photographs. Played chess with the Dutchman after
lunch. The Lieutenant of the Navy (Scott) is a great performer. After
dinner chess with the doctor and Mr de Rutzen and talk with the
Shores about their doings in Cairo.
